SnapDoc is a free, open-source alternative to Snagit — a fast screenshot and screen recording tool built for capturing, annotating, and sharing visuals without slowing down . Built with Tauri 2 and Rust, it runs natively on Windows and macOS, giving native-app speed instead of Electron bloat .
Why we built it
Most screenshot tools force a trade-off: free tools are fast but limited, while powerful tools like Snagit are closed-source and paid. SnapDoc closes that gap — fully open-source (MIT license), completely free, and still packs the annotation depth power users expect .
What makes it stand out
Six capture modes: full screen, region, active window, all-screens stitching, scrolling capture for long pages, and quick capture with an instant drawing overlay
Snagit-style annotation editor (built on Konva): numbered arrows, step counters, blur/pixelate for sensitive info, redaction blocks, and stitching multiple screenshots into one image
