Hey Product Hunters! ๐Ÿ‘‹ I'm thrilled to announce the launch of SnapDB, a powerful macOS application designed to simplify your database management experience. Whether you're a developer, data scientist, or database administrator, SnapDB is here to make your DB experience smoother and more efficient. Key Features: ๐Ÿš€ Quick Database Setup: Spin up your preferred database services in just a few clicks. ๐ŸŒ Multiple Version Management: Run multiple versions and types of database services simultaneously without any hassle. ๐Ÿงช Monitoring: Stay informed with instant alerts if any issues arise with your database services. Unlike other tools, SnapDB doesn't rely on Homebrew, Docker, or any other dependencies. It's a standalone solution that keeps your system clean and clutter-free. Try it out for free and let me know what you think! PS: We're offering an exclusive 25% LIFETIME PLAN discount to the Product Hunt community! ๐ŸŽ‰ Use the code PRODUCTHUNT2025 at checkout for this limited-time offer.

@masump thanks and good question. It's something that's not supported yet right now, but I definitely have it on the list of future improvements. Do note however, the app already provides you with full access to the DB's installation/data directory, so creating a quick back up should only take a minute or so ๐Ÿ˜‰

Really cool idea! Setting up Postgres locally is always a time-suck. Does it include UI apps like pgAdmin, or at least make it easy to connect?
Musa
@tleyden Thanks for the compliment! Out of the box, no DB interfacing tool is included. For now, SnapDB just helps you with starting/managing the database servers themselves. In order to view, query, chart your data, you'll still need a tool like pgAdmin, TablePlus, MySQL Workbench etc. In terms of connecting to the database; that's easy. The same default credentials can be used as you would normally do. E.g. 127.0.0.1:5432, username postgres, no password. Feel free to try the app out and let me know if this can be cleared up! โญ๏ธ

sounds like an interesting app! Do you have plans to support additional database services in the future?
Musa
@stb__ yes absolutely. Elasticsearch support is dropping (very) soon, and more services are planned for the future. https://x.com/SnapDBApp/status/1...

I've been looking for something like this. Awesome that you have a lot of MariaDB versions included. I used a brew installation that kept breaking my databases everytime I updated it. Looking forward to your future updates ๐Ÿ‘
Musa
@frrrrrrr Thanks - the issue you described is exactly what triggered me to build this โœ…

Congrats on the launch! Looks pretty sleek ๐Ÿ”ฅ Quick question - What are the over & above features from DBngin(https://dbngin.com/) considering that DBngin's free?
Musa
@shivamdhawan Hi, thanks for the compliments! I'm definitely aware of DBngin and think it's a great product. It's also something I was considering during the development. SnapDB distinguishes itself on a couple of points: - Wider DB Support DBngin only supports 3 database types (Postgres, MySQL and Redis) with limited version availability. SnapDB supports 5 database types (Postgres, MariaDB, MySQL, Redis and Mongo) with over 50+ different versions. (more DBs already planned and releasing soon) - Active Monitoring SnapDB actively monitors your services in the background. If any issues arise with your database services, SnapDB detects it within seconds and lets you know. - Active Development Perhaps the most important, SnapDB is fresh off the shelves and will be actively maintained. New features are already planned and support for new database types/versions will be continuously added. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for DBngin - due to it being a free initiative from the TablePlus team, it (understandably) seems that they are unable to dedicate sufficient time to its development. --- If the above points are valuable to you, then SnapDB could be interesting. And if not, then by all means stick with DBngin! ๐Ÿ˜„

@musa11971 Makes sense. Will definitely keep an eye on upcoming features. Some of them will eventually tilt the balance to SnapDB for me. All the best!! โญ๏ธ

Sounds like a very cool idea, was recently talking with a friend and he was wondering how he could do a step back from all those brew dependencies. Really cool how youโ€™ve basically solved his problem hahah! Iโ€™m looking forward to your updates!

Why pay for it when you have DBngin ? How it is different from DBngin ?
Musa
@sumeetkbhardwaj Hi, thanks for your comment. The question with regards to DBngin has been answered before, please scroll up to see it ๐Ÿ˜
