Most typing trainers are either bare-bones speed tests or over-gamified with XP and leaderboards. SmartType is neither: a clean, SaaS-styled practice tool built around two modes. Sprint Mode is a focused, timed session with full WPM, accuracy, and consistency tracking plus a per-key heatmap. Hacker Mode is a relaxed, no-limit mode styled like a movie hacking scene that quietly tracks your real accuracy underneath. No fake game mechanics, no signup required — free and instant.
Hi everyone — I'm the maker behind SmartType.
What inspired me: I wanted to get genuinely faster at typing, but every trainer I tried felt like homework, and I never had a natural excuse to sit down and grind through drills — especially at a desk in a shared office.
The problem I was solving: most typing tools force a choice between a bare speed test and an over-gamified experience with XP bars and leaderboards that don't actually make you type more. I wanted something that felt like a genuine practice tool, not a game.
How it evolved: SmartType started as a single mode (what's now Sprint Mode) — a focused, timed session with real WPM/accuracy/consistency tracking. Building it made me realize the discipline of sitting down for a timed drill is itself a barrier, so I added Hacker Mode: a relaxed, no-pressure mode styled like a movie hacking scene, with no timer and nothing ever recorded, for when you just want to type without the structure.
It's free, no signup required. Would love your feedback, especially on what would make this a tool you'd actually come back to daily.
