Hey Product Hunt, my name is Yuki! Antioch (one of my best friends from HS) and I built Smartrazor, to help YouTubers edit their talking head style videos way faster. We built this tool so YouTubers can spend time telling great stories & making awesome content instead of doing repetitive & tedious video editing tasks. Since I was in 4th grade, I’ve been obsessed with YouTube. In 6th grade I made my first video. In college, I started to upload relatively consistently. But what I always found frustrating was the time it took to edit videos. There were many Friday nights where I was hunched over Final Cut Pro in my dorm while my friends were out having fun. By senior year, I lost my passion for making YouTube videos, but it introduced me to a problem I could solve. To further validate this was a problem worth tackling, I web scraped ~1000 complaints on YouTube reddit subs. And I found that about 20% of the comments were related to the hassle of editing (the #2 most cited complaint, right after burnout). So, we made Smartrazor to solve it. Upload your raw A-roll & (in the future) B-roll, and Smartrazor outputs a cohesive, first pass edited video. You can then make final touches of this first pass edit in your preferred video editor (e.g. adding text, animations, key frames, etc.). In spirit of launching early (and while embarrassed), we are launching our MVP today, which only accommodates the A-roll editor. Would love to get your feedback!

@sam_tan7 Thank you Samantha I appreciate that! You and Sev are amazing and watching your progress on Model Muse really kept me going!
Felix Scholz
@yukioyama congrats on your launch, Yuki! Smart razor a super helpful tool for new video creators 🥳 it's even better you launch early than doing it too late!
Yuki
Hunter
@fscholz Thank you Felix! Admittedly we're launching really early but wanted to force ourselves to launch while embarrased!
Yuki
Hunter
@fscholz Can't wait for the Fynk demo as well, please keep me posted.
Anastasiia Stepko
Hey Yuki! Congratulations on your launch! I enjoyed reading your story; thanks for sharing it in the first comment! Also, what a great idea to validate the problem through scraping Reddit! Did you use any AI tool for that?
Yuki
Hunter
@anastasiia_stepko Thank you! No, it was largely a manual process assisted by VAs

Congrats on the launch @yukioyama @john_sanders7. We recently started a video podcast about founders who launched and achieved Top 5 on PH. The editing process is tedious, Smartrazor looks cool, we'll check it out for our next video edit. Here is our latest video, how would we use it? https://youtu.be/X6fRS000L1s?si=...

@john_sanders7 @ty_robb Hey Tyrone! I appreciate the feedback. Man it feels like forever ago we were talking about your LinkedIn reddit meme boy does time fly! To be honest, I don't think this is a tool for podcasts because the conversations flow naturally so not much needs to be cut out. This is more made for the type of video where you talk at a camera, make mistakes, and want those cut out.
Yuki
Hunter
@john_sanders7 @ty_robb also, super cool to see how many founders you've gotten on this channel! What inspired you to start this?
Tyrone Robb
@john_sanders7 @yukioyama Everyone's journey is different, a lot of times people advise what worked for them, but that does not always apply to someone else. So I thought it would be beneficial to the PH community to find people whose situation is more like theirs. Also, the founders tend to have such great stories from before PH and its always interesting to learn from someone else's experience.
Tyrone Robb
@john_sanders7 @yukioyama you are welcome. I am due to start some talking heads but have not got around to it yet, so we will have a look at using Smartrazor for them. Also your buttons with the green and white hurt my eye a little, I'm a bit colour blind on two fronts so it may just be me.
Yuki
Hunter
@john_sanders7 @ty_robb Thanks Tyrone! Would love to have you! Also, please throw any questions over DM to me, happy to answer if problems arise. And i think you're completely right, thank you for pointing that out. Don't think it's you, we should change the color to something easier to look at especially on the dark background
Congrats on the launch Yuki 🎉 I really love how you validated the problem by scraping Reddit. Can you explain a little about the AI component? Which model do you use? And what do you use it for? Can't wait to hear about future releases of Smartrazor!
Yuki
Hunter
@jgani Thanks Jonni! Currently using GPT-4 but looking to move to a fine tuned open source model long term, just don't have enough data at the moment for sufficient training. We use it for trimming down the raw footage transcript. Appreciate your support!

This is amazing! I've been wanting to start a channel for a while now but lack the editing skills so I had to spend a lot of money on it. How was your experience building it with Bubble? Is it just for the MVP or do you think you could scale on it?
Yuki
Hunter
@noa_kahalon Hey Noa! This is such an awesome question, that I'm still personally trying to work through myself so I'm glad you asked. For us, building in bubble had pros and cons. On one hand, we're able to work through things like user login / backend database / pricing super quickly. On the other hand, it was extremely difficult to get the custom video editor to where we were hoping to get it - hence why we didn't include the video visualizer which was difficult to add in Bubble.
Yuki
Hunter
@noa_kahalon Wish I could give you a better answer 😅. I do think eventually we would try to switch to custom code to add in more powerful features.
Noa Kahalon
@yukioyama Thanks for the answer! And congrats on your launch ;)

Hunter
@noa_kahalon Appreciate it Noa :)

The product looks simple to use and useful. Great job. Looking forward to its release from beta.

@oleksandr_zhabin Thanks Oleksandr! Kind words, but as a seasoned dev i know you probably have some critique. Any suggestions on roadmap or features you'd want to see down the line? And does $10/mo pricing seem reasonable to you?
Oleksandr Zhabin
@yukioyama It's challenging to talk about the technical aspect without knowing what's under the hood :) From a user perspective, everything looks pretty good. Perhaps some users might be disappointed by the maximum file size limit of 4.5 GB. However, it's hard for me to comment on this since I'm not in the video production industry. It would also be beneficial to upload many videos in various shooting conditions and see how the application handles them. But that's already full-fledged testing, which will take a lot of time. Although I believe you've already done this and know the capabilities of your product. Overall, it seems like a good product for a specific category of people in video production. As for whether $10/month is a lot, it's hard to say since I haven't experienced the pain of video editing. But if we assume that this product saves me dozens of hours per month on video editing, then I would definitely pay $10/month for it. Regarding the features, what you showed at the beginning of the video with the B-rolls and timeline looks intriguing. If it works like I upload a set of video files and get a well-organized and good-looking video, that would be very cool.

@oleksandr_zhabin Totally fair. And thank you so much for taking the time for this feedback. 1. Agreed that 4.5GB max is currently a limiter, and we are trying to work around this. You're completely right. On the other hand, this should be able to handle a good chunk of raw footage at a time. It is on the road map for us to increase this. 2. Agreed, at the moment the capability is not where we want it to be. We hope to improve our model by inputting more user data. 3. Gotcha, yeah we'll have to see how much of a time saver this is! And make improvements so that it can be an even bigger time saver down the line. 4. Yes that is the goal, being able to dump b roll a roll and get a fairly polished output!

Heads up. the FAQ section doesn't work, at least not in safari. 😅
Yuki
Hunter
@sentry_co Oof thank you Andre. Appreciate the feedback. Anything else on the functional side of the app you could comment on? Know you're a development wizard so that would be super helpful for us 🫶 Also WHAT i didn't know you're also launching Tap?? How are you managing so many things 🤯
André J
@yukioyama I would reach out with your offering directly to to "under water" YouTubers 🤿. they will use anything that can free them from mundane repetitive tasks. So PMF is strong there.
Yuki
Hunter
@sentry_co Thanks Andre that's really good to know! Do you know any examples off the top of your head?
André J
@yukioyama All YouTubers are underwater on time. Just formulate a funny cold DM. And reel them in 🎣
Yuki
Hunter
@sentry_co solid advice thanks!
