I built Skodz because booking a barber in Lagos still runs on WhatsApp, guesswork, and "come around 3pm, I'm around." Skodz is a marketplace for barbers across Africa. You browse real photos of a barber's actual work, pick a style, book a time, and pay in the app. Barbers either work from their shop or travel to you. The two things that took longest to get right were money and movement: Travel is priced honestly. Home-service barbers set a rate per kilometre, billed round trip and quoted before you book. We got this wrong once and quoted someone ₦556,400 for an ₦8,000 haircut, because the barber was 137km away and nothing showed the distance. Now you see how far your barber is and what the trip costs, on their profile, before you commit. Payouts split at the moment of payment. The barber's share goes straight to their own account. We never sit on their money. Where we are: over 500 barbers in Nigeria with over 2,000 photos of their work, plus barbers signing up in Ghana, Zambia, Cameroon, South Africa and Côte d'Ivoire. Last week a barber in Zambia messaged to say the payout screen was quoting him in naira and wouldn't accept his account name. Both were real bugs. Both are fixed, and he's now set up with Airtel Money. What I'd genuinely like feedback on: supply turned out to be the easy half. Despite having 60 Clients and 52 bookings in the first month, getting Clients to trust an app for something as 'casual' as a haircut still seems relatively challenging.
