I'm building a tool that lets you draw on your screen. Not a whiteboard app. Not a design tool. Literally draw on top of anything β your browser, your IDE, your Zoom call.
The problem that started it: every time I'm on a call explaining something, I think "if I could just circle this..." Existing tools either don't work live or look like they were built in 2005.
So I built my own.
The stack: Tauri + Excalidraw as the drawing engine, transparent always-on-top window. Chose Tauri over Electron because a screen overlay should be lightweight.
The hardest part: transparent window + always on top + captures mouse only when drawing. Sounds simple. Every OS handles it differently. I deleted everything and started over 3 times.
Design principle: 80% of the value from 20% of Excalidraw's features. Freehand, arrows, shapes, text, color picker. That's it.
After ~2 months it's live β sketchscreen.pro
Would love feedback from teachers, devs, and anyone who explains things on screen for a living π

@nevo_davidΒ Thanks Nevo, appreciate your support!
Great tool.
You all should try it out.
Helped me a lot in sessions to demo and explain exactly what I referred to.
