Hey Product Hunt 👋 I built Sift because I kept ending up with messy folders — Downloads, Desktop, project folders, temporary files — and I wanted a better way to organize them without blindly trusting an automated tool with my filesystem. That became the core idea behind Sift: automation should be useful, but safe by default. Sift is an open-source, local-first CLI written in Rust. You can enter a folder, run sift, and see what it plans to do before anything changes. Dry-run is the default, and changes only happen when you explicitly use --apply. Along the way, I added configurable rules, watch mode, history and undo, protections for sensitive files, and several safeguards against accidental changes. What started as a tool for cleaning up my own messy folders became something I thought other developers might find useful too.
