Sidenote is a browser extension that allows you to live chat or comment on any page of the internet. Unify your community conversations and stop creating accounts to discover what people are saying online.
Hello Product Hunt! 👋
I’m thrilled to share my first release and join the ranks of product launchers!
To quickly address some of the most common questions:
"Does it work on..."
- YouTube? Yup.
- Amazon? Yup.
- Google Search? Yup.
- Product Hunt? Yup.
- Your website? Yup. 👀
Sidenote was born from my own frustrations with the current state of community conversation online. I was tired of needing separate accounts for every site I wanted to comment or live chat on—be it blogs, Q&As, shopping sites, social media, or entertainment. A large number of pages don't have support for either.
Along with this, I find myself immediately going to the comments when I read something that I find interesting or don't understand. When there isn't a place for comments, I'm left sifting through search results and forums trying to find someone who has had the same issue before.
Now we can all leave those days behind. Sidenote provides both a community comment section and live chat completely free of charge.
I am going to be hanging out in the live chat on this page for the day, drop in and say hello!

Hey @dalurness,
Really cool one, loved the world chart most.
Reminds me of the kind of fun conversations that happens over Reddit comment history.
Congratulations on the launch 🚀

@dalurness Cheers to the team behind this! Wishing you all the best on this new adventure. What are you most excited about with this launch?
@pradhumn_vijayvargiya Definitely looking for some great conversations in places where they haven't been able to happen before!

Hi Dallin, congrats on the launch! Just a question, is there somewhere I can open up all the conversation I have had in the past at once or will I have to go to that page again to answer ?
This app is amazing, great idea @dalurness !
I feel your same pain for the "account madness", and I feel more frustrated when I'm unable to comment/communicate on web pages not providing comment functionalities.
As @crebuh pointed out, it reminds discuss in some way. It would be nice to give site owners the possibility to embed comments on the page using a script, a kind of window on the sidenote app.
I hope your app will be used by many people ;)

Hi Dallin! Big congrats on reaching this milestone for Sidenote! How does the social graph work? Any plans to draw from X or Discord to find friends? (In my experience those are platforms where my highly-online friends hang)
Hey Dallin, I have mixed feelings about this new tool, the idea of having a unified comment section across the web is pretty cool but I'm wondering about privacy issues, how do you plan on tackling that also the tool could get really messy with spammers, what measures are in place to keep things clean? I'm curious to see how things will evolve
The idea of commenting on any page is cool, but honestly won't this just lead to more trolls and spam? can you really see people using it in a meaningful way or will it just become another tool for people to mess around.
I love this! My only problem is that I stopped using chrome for my primary browser and switched to FireFox. Do you have any plans to create a FireFox plug-in?
@thequeercajun Great question! Like you said, it currently works on Chrome, Brave, Edge, Opera, or any other Chromium based browser. We are working to port it over to Firefox here soon, but it is a bit more work than I was expecting. I'd encourage you to switch to Brave for a more private browser experience than Chrome, and check back later for when we announce support for Firefox!
