Small creators can't re-edit long videos into Shorts — their best highlights never get posted. ShortsCutter turns one long video (talk, podcast, interview, tutorial) into ready-to-post vertical clips with burned-in captions. Moments are scored on hooks, emotion and pacing — explainable heuristics, not an LLM — and each clip shows why it was picked. Custom sizes: 9:16, 1:1, 4:5, 16:9 or any. Founding beta $19/month: send a long video, I cut it personally — decide after seeing your own clips.

Hi Product Hunt 👋 I'm XM Yang, an indie developer, and I built ShortsCutter because I kept watching great long videos — talks, podcasts, tutorials — that almost nobody discovers, simply because the best 40 seconds inside them never get posted anywhere.
I'm a solo creator myself, and re-editing every long video into Shorts by hand was the first task I always skipped. So I automated the repetitive first pass: download → transcribe → score every candidate moment on hooks, emotion and pacing → render vertical clips with burned-in captions.
Two choices I made on purpose:
1. **No LLM in the picking step.** The scoring is explainable heuristics — every clip ships with its score breakdown ("+14 opens with a question word", "+20 emotion words"…), so you can see *why* a moment was picked instead of trusting a black box. It also keeps the marginal cost at zero.
2. **Real demo, nothing hand-picked.** The three clips on the site were produced end-to-end from one real TEDx talk (Shawn Achor, "The happy secret to better work"). I didn't re-edit them afterwards — timings and picks are exactly what the tool produced. The source was only available at 360p, so they look softer than output from your own full-quality uploads.
It just gained custom output sizes (9:16, 1:1, 4:5, 16:9, or any WxH) alongside the original blur-pad and center-crop modes.
This is a founding beta ($19/mo, locked for beta members). There's no self-serve upload yet — apply on the site, send me one of your long videos, and I'll cut a trial from *your* video before you pay anything.
I'd love feedback on one thing most: for your content, what makes a moment worth clipping? I'll be here all day answering every comment.
