I built Shopping UK in 2013 when I couldn't find a shopping list app that did what I wanted. I was looking for a self-learning shopping list that would suggest items and automatically categorise them based on their location in a UK supermarket. The app needed to understand natural language, such as 3 small red tomatoes, 5kg potatoes, or 3 pints of milk. I wanted to be able to create a list as if I were writing a note, and let the app do the hard work of understanding and categorising my items. Over the years, I have extended the app's functionality to include smart spell-checking and corrections, custom categories, a recently-bought items drawer, list synchronisation between five devices, support for pasting and parsing a list of ingredients from a recipe, and I continue to improve its recommendation and categorisation engine. The app is currently the #1 shopping list app in the UK and has tens of thousands of regular users.
