Shift Pic

Hi folks! At the agency I work at, both developers and designers often end up having to manually resize and optimize a bunch of images for our clients' websites. As you might have guessed already, figuring out the ideal sizes, formats and quality setting for every image was quite time intensive. That's why I decided to build Shift Pic. Instead of manually resizing the browser and inspecting the node sizes to figure out the best image dimensions for desktops, tablets and mobile devices, I developed a simple script that automates that process. You simply simply click on an image or background image on a website, and the extension will figure out the different dimensions you should use by adjusting the browser window's size and zoom levels. Then, I combined a multitude of image processing scripts and librairies, and developed a few of my own as well, in order to build a system that attempts to figure out the lowest image quality setting that can be used while losing as little detail and sharpness as possible. Wrapped up neatly in a small Chrome Extension, these are the main components and features behind what has now become Shift Pic.
