Hello Product Hunt! I am a long-time college instructor, and I began working on this after interviewing people with disabilities about online learning during the pandemic. Many people—including Deaf, Hard of Hearing and English learners—depend on quality captions and auto-generated captions are not good enough! With a team of designers and developers including people with disabilities, we developed a Chrome extension that automatically notifies you if YouTube links you find while browsing have manually captions, auto-generated captions or no captions. The extension provides a visual cue about the quality of captions for YouTube videos before you click on them. We've designed this application to be inclusive of people with low-vision and colorblindness as well as people who are blind and use screen readers. We hope our product saves people time related to finding accessible videos, and we hope it brings awareness about the need for captioned videos!
