Seven39 is a social media app that is only accessible for 3 hours in the evening (just on the East Coast of the US for now) from 7:39pm to 10:39pm EST, providing a consistent daily window for you to enjoy social media for some time, and then log off.

I built Seven39 as a quick experiment to determine whether a time boxed social media experience is better than the limitless, constant experience we are now accustomed to. I miss the old days of the internet when it felt like it had a cycle. People would come home after school and work and that was "primetime" for the internet. I wondered whether that magic could be recaptured if you made a site inaccessible for the majority of the day, but set aside specific hours for people to connect and eventually log off together. The site has only been open for 4 sessions, and we've been having a lot of fun chatting and figuring out what the site is going to be. It is for sure a different experience than a standard social media app so far! Encouraging you to join us and say hello.

@mklyons This is a cool concept - I'm interested to see where this goes. I definitely miss the old days too when being on the Internet was a "focused" activity that you engaged with for a while and then moved on to other things.

I like that the time window is short and consistent, but I wonder if it's enough time given people's varying schedules. How did you decide on the time window for 3 hours?
