Since this product is seemingly aimed at people with limited technical knowledge it might be too challenging to go into details, but for the rest, you might want to add an FAQ that explains what pre-conditions you require. Does the process work on a shared server? Do you have to have a certain level of server access? cPanel? SSH? Does it work with all hosting providers? Etc. And a separate point: Would it make sense to offer a volume discount?

@joergst I love this feedback and appreciate that you took time to detail a few ideas of what you would want in an FAQ page! I couldn't agree more -- we'll get that FAQs set up asap to help customers understand the process. I'll send you a PM with our DIY guide notes that outline some of these points in the meantime. As I'm catching up today, I'm stoked about this reoccurring idea in the comments of agency discount or volume discount. That would presumably allow anyone who works with clients, to outsource this need to us. Is that the kind of reason you were thinking about volume discount or is it for multiple sites you operate?

The truth is, SSL installation can be daunting to a lot of "non techie. OK, granted, that a lot of hosting is offering "Free SSL " now, but it's not just the installation that matters, in fact, even more challenging is the setting up and trouble shooting after the installation, especially if you have an established LIVE site or blog. Error like "mixed content" and problem can appear at anywhere within your pages, an old post, a external font you used, in the coding of the theme or plugin if you are using wordpress. Also not to mentioned steps to make sure to keep your ranking from Google as our Big G view http and https as a completely "different" site. So believe me folks, this service is worth the price for the hassle and time you can saved. A few question: - What is the estimate timeframe for you to complete an install? - Will you provide a report of any kind to your client? - I assume we will need to add you guys into Google Search Console for submitting our site, right? +1 on @joergst a agency discount or even affiliate or reseller program will be great! ( At least for my line of job. :) Looking forward to be your next client or partner :)

Everything you said is totally on point and reminds me of our initial motivation for helping small businesses and bloggers avoid issues while tinkering on a Live site, getting mixed content errors, and converting http to https in Google's eyes. @jasonser Jason, thanks for pointing this out and calling some attention back to these questions. Typically, we can have the SSL installation completed within 24 hours of purchase. It usually involves a little bit of scheduling and making sure we know what is considered "off-peak" for the business / website. In the cases where a client has entrusted us with their credentials via LastPass, we will take care of the SSL Installation at the designated/agreed upon time and provide an email summary of all settings and files changed on their website hosting. We are happy to teach our customers how to re-add the HTTPs version of their site to Google Search Console under their Google Account. We prefer to use Google Analytics verification over writing a file to the server (or other validation methods) and therefore it's best if the business owner is guided on how to do these steps. Otherwise we would also need Google Analytics access. In other words, we do not need access, or have a desire to claim site ownership in Google Search Console. If the customer's hosting allows us enough admin access to install the free Let's Encrypt SSL Certificate, we take that approach. In that case renewal is auto-renewing occurs every 3 months for a 3 month period -- it's awesome! In the case the customer's hosting does not allow us to use Let's Encrypt, the customer would simply pay us the fee again in the future to assist them with renewal, if they want to.

The idea for this product came to me in October 2017 after hearing about Google Chrome Version 68 that will "shame" webmasters into securing their websites if they aren't already. 👀 When I first started building websites over 20 years ago, obtaining an SSL certificate was costly, difficult, and confusing. Not a whole lot changed until just the past couple of years where you can now get an SSL certificate for Free. 👏👏 Despite the nice new price-tag of $0, I repeatedly noticed while working with clients, that very few of them have the technical knowledge to install the certificate correctly and not mess up their sites or SEO. Hence, Secure My Website was born. 🚀 I believe in a secure Internet that protects the privacy of all users, so I am not ashamed to admit that I like that Google is shaming website operators into securing their sites. @thijs_sondag That's cool you mention Let's Encrypt 👌 They changed the whole game and their certs are what Secure My Website is based on. Tackling the command line to get a cert installed can be a bit tricky -- I totally know what you mean, and I'm glad somebody said it. Preach! 📣 We are still getting our bearings on the wildcard SSL from Let's Encrypt since it's only a few months old. That's a great idea to offer a support package for wildcard. Very interesting product! Perfect timing. I am in the process of building my personal website. Purchased a domain name and noticed that the provider included free ssl at checkout. But then I started looking for a good wordpress hosting provider and saw a series of ssl certificates at different prices. I got lost comparing the info and closed the tab. What makes your ssl certificate different? Why is it free? I thought installing an ssl is a one-click install done-for-you service offered by the hosting provider. What additional help are you offering? Thanks!

FYI, one of the pricier, yet solid WordPress hosting companies I really like is WP Engine. They offer a Free SSL cert via Let's Encrypt and it's a click of a button to install. If you haven't heard about Let's Encrypt, it's worth a look at who backs them and their vision to make secure sites ubiquitous: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Le... The coolest part about Let's Encrypt (besides being free) is that the certificates are 3-month long durations that auto renew. So if you follow the methodology and install Let's Encrypt correctly with a cron job or scheduled task on your hosting, the certificate will auto renew into perpetuity. Meaning, once you have it set up correctly, you're good to go forever, SWEET! So to answer your question about why the SSL is free from is, you probably guessed it: we're utilizing Let's Encrypt 👊 Hosting providers can make SSL installation tricky if they aren't already on board with this idea of Free SSL from Let's Encrypt. We've found over the past several months that non-technical customers such as small business owners really just want someone who is friendly, knowledgeable, and cares about their business to 'hold their hand' through the process so they don't make any costly mistakes with broken pages / assets that might hurt their SEO rankings. In essence, that's what we're charging for -- the time on a phone call or web meeting to work with a person who has your best interest in mind.

I've got a client with a site that would be perfect for the $49 package. He has two sites on GoDaddy. The more critical one has SSL provided by GoDaddy. This billboard site does not. He seems to be locked into a situation where they would charge him about $70. Two questions: 1. Would you be able to install on his site (guide me through)? 2. Would the certificate need to be renewed every three months? Thanks for a well timed product.

@scottatsws Hi Scott, thanks for checking us out and for your questions. I apologize for not seeing your message sooner! If the hosting plan for the GoDaddy site is a VPS, yes our service will work for your client's site. Typically though, most GoDaddy customers do not have the VPS plan. Here is a link to an FAQ on our site about GoDaddy support: https://www.securemywebsite.net/... While it is possible to do some workarounds to get the free certificate working, it requires using an external tool to manually generate and install certificates every 3 months. This workaround is highly inconvenient and a poor usage of everyone's time. It's really not in the spirit of our "free, auto-renewing SSL certificate from Let's Encrypt".
