None of the ticketing systems that exist today are built with community ticketing in mind. The specific thing that's missing is a tool that allows the party organizer to track and control the spread of information about his or her secret or semi-public event.
The typical scenario goes like this: I want to invite people, I want the people I invite to be able to invite people, but I don't want the people who are 2nd degree invitees to be able to invite people. It's pretty simple: you want to be able to host an event and know that everyone there will be within 2 degrees of you (which is a massive network in most cases!). Sounds straightforward, right?
Secret Party's developer actually applied for a Product Manager job at Eventbrite, Facebook, Ticketfly and a host of other organizations who all told him that this key feature and the rest of the product ideas he had weren't going to work. Eventbrite told him that they thought ticket services shouldn't focus on community ticketing at all... Sometimes you just have to put a team together and build the tools you want for yourself!
After an extensive private beta over the last year, with thousands of tickets sold, Secret Party is now opening up its platform for other party organizers to use. If you are throwing a holiday or NYE or even a Halloween party, take a look at Secret Party!
