Looks super cool but a word of caution. Breathing compressed air underwater is no joke.. You can literally blow a hole in your lung by taking a breath of compressed air and then going to the surface. This can happen in less than 10 ft of water. I think this invention looks incredible, but hope they make users aware of the dangers, or get the training needed.

@joshdance I can't upvote this comment enough -- I don't think people understand how dangerous this can be if proper decompression procedure is not followed. As a certified diver, I've seen people get the bends in shallow water and there's absolutely *NO* disclaimer, warning or anything else on their Kickstarter campaign. For anyone considering this, I highly advise you educate yourself about DCS (the bends) and how to avoid it while diving. There are reasons people get scuba certified, don't short circuit all of that in one moment on a fun vacation and get yourself killed. Lawsuit waiting to happen.

@kristofer, this project is stunning! I do agree with you, the pump is one of the coolest thing on this project but it could have been smaller. I'm quite new on product Hunt, why is there no maker for this project?

No certified diver would ever even go near a product like this. The Scorkl does not adhere to whatever EN or ISO standards and is a certain death trap. You'd rather get advice from your local dive shop on getting you Open Water Scuba certification or just do a short 'try dive' to get an idea of the requirements and safety procedures underwater, to prevent serious harm or death. @paul_young4 You don't even have the slightest clue, what you're talking about, do you? This device will sooner or later kill people, if it hasn't already. I've been a certified diver for over 15 years and would never - not even in an emergency - entrust Scorkl with my life support.

Someone wrote there were ZERO pros with this product and I simply gave a few PROS FOR TRAINED PEOPLE. Did you read that? I agree this is dangerous for the untrained but I AM trained, and I use it for emergency boat use at depths of 8 feet or less. So it is not a death trap for me of anyone "trained" and it certainly has its PROs. Dont be such a douchebag.

@markus_schuette it was also my first thought, that it was a weird looking way to go on diving. If you were given a blank paper to design an ergonomic solution from scratch I don't think you would come with this approach, but I guess they just build on top of the existing know how on oxygen tanks, which can keep gases in these extreme pressures.

As Josh points out at the top this looks great, and is great, however it could actually kill you quite easily, or at least injure you to the point of you never wanting to submerge below the sea's surface again. Which would be a great shame. As a SCUBA diver I have one question: When you have the Scorkl in your mouth, how do you check your remaining air? If you can do so with it in your mouth great, if you can't this further adds to the danger of this product. 1) If you have to take it out to check remaining air you risk losing your Scorkl to the surface with you near out of breath (for casual non SCUBA trained divers this will mean instant panic and further risk of not exhaling and chest expansion injuries) 2) Taking water into your mouth which could obviously cause choking (again, for non-SCUBA trained divers this will cause instant panic). If you haven't trained as a SCUBA diver, the first thing you learn is that SCUBA diving is actually very dangerous, no matter how easy and 'mainstream' it is. All the gear and advancements make it very safe, say as safe as skydiving, but don't make excuses for the fact that it is dangerous. The second (or near enough) thing you learn is that you NEVER dive alone, ever. Always with a buddy. The fact that this is not immediately obvious to the general buying public and the fact that you can just buy one of these and jump into the water, is itself an instant recipe for disaster. For good reason you need to train and be warned of the dangers of SCUBA diving, including general water safety etc, even if you are doing a super-shallow holiday resort course, you still need that knowledge. If you want to experience the underwater world (and you totally should) but don't want or have SCUBA training, I would rather point you towards something like this: (Tribord Easybreath) https://www.youtube.com/user/Tri...

Terrible, dangerous idea as confirmed by top freedivers I've discussed this product with. Any kind of consumption of air at depth requires tables to avoid decompression. Training and supervision by a qualified scuba diving teacher is essential.

Perfect for trained people to use for short durations, Convienient, Great for boaters that need to dive less than 10 feet and clear a fouled propellor, Saves me time and effort gearing up, lightweight, functional, Just to name a few
