Why did I build this?
I wanted a small, native Mac utility for checking spacing and dimensions without opening a design tool. I use PixelSnap 2, but didn't feel like paying for it again on a second computer. I just needed the main functionality, hover to see distances, drag to measure an area, pin measurements, and copy the result as pixels, points, or CSS.
Schnaps is free and open source, written in Swift, and runs on macOS 14+.
I built the initial app in about an hour with Codex, then refined the UI and release flow. The prompts and build notes are here: https://github.com/gabriel/Schnaps/blob/main/docs/prompts.md
