This app exists because of a supermarket queue. Klarna had taken over Stocard, and the app I had used for years wanted me to sign in before it would show a barcode I had already saved. Weak signal, cashier waiting, people behind me.
So I built the boring version. Here is what ScanKeeper does NOT do:
🚫 No account — nothing to sign up for, nothing to recover
🚫 No email address, ever
🚫 No ads, and not a single advertising SDK in the binary
🚫 No location access, no push notifications — the app asks for the camera and your photo library, and that is the entire list
🚫 No profile of you — analytics are anonymous counts through TelemetryDeck, no advertising IDs
What it does do:
• Scan a card, or import a whole camera roll of old screenshots in one go. That bulk import turned out to be how most people actually move over from another app.
• Tap a card and it opens full-screen at full brightness, so the scanner at the till reads it on the first try. This is the least glamorous part of the app and the part I spent the most time on.
• Works with no signal. Everything lives on the device. iCloud sync is optional and goes to your own iCloud — I never see your cards.
• Home screen widgets, folders, search, CSV export.
• iPhone, iPad and Android, in 39 languages.
Money, up front, because it is the first thing I would want to know: unlimited cards are free, forever. Premium covers folders, search, CSV export and the widget, either yearly or as a one-time lifetime unlock. Pricing is adjusted per country, so I won't quote a number that would be wrong where you live.
Two things I would genuinely like to hear from you:
1. If you left Stocard — what finally pushed you out? The account wall, or something else?
2. Which card does your wallet app always fail to scan? I keep a list and test against it.
Happy to go into the offline-first architecture, or what maintaining 39 localizations solo actually looks like.
