Hey PH ๐
I've been collecting flat caps and scally caps for a few years and the apps for tracking my collection always felt like one of two things: a static museum (catalog the cap, never look at it again) or a wardrobe tracker built for shirts and jeans where hats are an afterthought.
Neither matched how I actually engage with my collection. The thing I do every day is put a cap on. Not catalog one. Not vote on one. Wear one.
So I built **Tip Your Cap** as a daily-ritual app for flat cap collectors. Core mechanic: every day you put a cap on, you log it. The app builds your **rotation streak** (consecutive days you've logged a wear) and uses real wear data instead of popularity votes for the community side.
A few things that emerged from that simple shift:
๐ฅ **The Wear-Off** โ bracket competition where 16 caps face off. Winners of each round are decided by which cap the community actually wears more during that round, not by votes. No vote-bombing possible.
๐ **Today page** โ morning check-in. Shows your rotation streak, what you've logged today, what the community is wearing right now, and any active Wear-Off matchups your caps are in.
๐งข **Community catalog** โ every cap you add becomes part of a shared catalog. The homepage has a "Caps alive right now" feed showing what's getting worn in the last 24 hours.
๐ค **Share cards** โ log a wear with a photo and the app generates a 1080ร1080 share card with subtle branding. Designed for dropping in private collector groups (Boston Scally Insider has been great) without futzing with photo editors.
The whole thing is free and works as a PWA on iPhone and Android (Add to Home Screen โ no App Store).
Two user types I'd love feedback from:
1. **Existing flat cap collectors** โ does the rotation mechanic actually fit how you collect? What's missing?
2. **People with adjacent collecting habits** (sneakerheads, watch nerds) โ would a wear-tracking-first model work for your hobby? Asking because the same data model could support other collector niches.
