I’m Youssef, the solo founder and developer of SAYR, a public transportation app I built to make commuting simpler, smarter, and less stressful.
I’m excited to finally share SAYR with this community!
Why did I build SAYR?
The idea started with two problems I kept noticing in everyday life, especially here in Cairo, Egypt.
1. Crowded pickup locations
If you’ve ever used public transportation in a busy city, you know how frustrating it can be to arrive at a pickup location only to find it extremely crowded.
You don’t know whether you should wait, leave earlier next time, or look for another route.
I wanted to give people more control over their journeys.
That’s why I introduced a crowding indicator in SAYR, helping users understand expected crowding conditions around their departure time.
My goal was simple: What if people could make informed decisions before leaving home instead of discovering the situation when they arrive?
2. Finding public transportation shouldn’t be difficult
In Egypt, finding the right bus, microbus, or metro route often means asking strangers, friends, or even posting in Facebook groups.
Questions like “Which bus should I take?”, “Where do I get off?”, and “Do I need to transfer?” shouldn’t be so difficult to answer.
I wanted to eliminate that confusion.
With SAYR, you simply enter your destination, choose your departure time, and explore available transportation routes.
The app guides you through your journey step by step, almost like having a friend who knows the city showing you the way.
No complicated planning. No unnecessary confusion. Just a simpler way to get around.
What can you do with SAYR?

👥 Crowding insights: Check expected crowding around your departure time to plan your journey more effectively.

🌍 Available in 90+ countries: Although SAYR was inspired by transportation challenges in Egypt, I wanted to build something useful worldwide.
🇪🇬 Built with Egypt in mind: Supporting buses, microbuses, and metro routes to help people navigate Cairo more easily.
Building SAYR independently
One of the biggest challenges has been building SAYR as a solo developer.
From designing the interface and developing the iOS and Android applications to integrating transportation data and improving the routing experience, I’ve worked on bringing this vision to life.
I strongly believe technology should solve real problems that people experience every day.
For someone commuting to university, heading to work, or visiting an unfamiliar destination, finding transportation shouldn’t be another source of stress.
Even saving someone 10 minutes of confusion or helping them avoid an unnecessarily crowded pickup location can make a difference.
That’s the impact I’m hoping to create.
What’s next?
SAYR is still evolving.
I’m continuously working on improving route accuracy, expanding transportation coverage, refining crowding insights, and making the experience even more intuitive.
My long-term vision is to make SAYR a reliable public transportation companion for people around the world.
