I kept hitting the same wall: I wanted to spend Bitcoin in the real world, but the existing maps felt slow on mobile and, worse, I could never tell how trustworthy a listing was. Is this place still accepting? Who put it here? When was that last checked? So I built SatSpots around one rule: be honest about what we actually know. Every place shows where its data came from (BTC Map / OpenStreetMap, with full ODbL attribution) and when it was last verified. If we do not know whether a spot takes Lightning or on-chain, we say "unknown" instead of guessing. The part I care about most is keeping three things separate that other maps blur together: Source: the listing exists in the open data. Managed: a real business has claimed and maintains the profile. Accepting: Bitcoin acceptance confirmed, with a date. Businesses can claim their spot for free, keep it current, add photos and offers, and earn a "Business-managed profile" badge. Next up is the piece I am most excited about: non-custodial bookkeeping that turns a merchant's incoming Bitcoin into a report ready for their accountant. Read-only, it never touches keys or funds.
