Salttie.com

A social media site that doesn't sell your data.

Salttie.com is an experimental site that shows us what it looks like for a social media platform to charge for use instead of selling users data for revenue. The site uses the Lightning network to make small payments in Bitcoin. You can also login by simply signing a message using your Lightning network.

What do you think? …

Anthony Lee
Most people today would not think of paying to use social media, but there has been a lot of talk around privacy and what data social media sites are selling to companies. The fact is, if you are not paying for a product, you are the product. Because of this, I decided to showcase the Lightning network and the opportunity is opens up for social media sites to accept micropayments for use. This model allows users to pay for services in Bitcoin instead of their data. Make no mistake, this site would probably never be profitable even at a large scale but it is an interesting experiment that I hope provokes interest around the topic and showcases what the Lightning Network can do.
