Hi everyone 👋! Ben here – software engineer @ Ro! Excited to be back on Product Hunt to share another free, open-access tool from Ro designed to help people interested in GLP-1s: the Ro GLP-1 Insurance Coverage Checker. At Ro, one of the biggest problems our patients on GLP-1s have is understanding how much they have to pay for these life-changing medications. Right now, the onus is on patients to understand and navigate the insurance landscape, which can lead to wasted time, unnecessary complexity, and confusion and disappointment at every step of the process. Currently, people can either: 📞 Call their insurance company, leading to long wait times and requiring them to know exactly what questions to ask to understand their coverage requirements 🧑‍⚕️ Ask their provider to complete a benefits verification, waiting and paying for an open appointment, and relying on their provider being willing and able to do this 🏥 Wait until they’re at their pharmacy to determine if they’re covered, leading to confusion, wasted time, and the potential for being blindsided by a significantly higher medication price than anticipated. We built the GLP-1 Insurance Coverage Checker to do 3 things: 💵 Give patients a detailed report of their insurance coverage across multiple GLP-1 options up front, rather than after they’ve already been prescribed medication ⏰ Save time with a free, easy-to-use tool that takes the burden off of them to figure out their coverage options 📊 Recommend the best path forward using data with real-time information about GLP-1 supply availability (a critical part of the Supply Tracker we launched a few months back) and actionable next steps for treatment. At Ro, we know that not having easy-to-find info about GLP-1 insurance coverage is a significant barrier to patients seeking out treatment. In a survey we conducted last year, we found that the number one reason why people interested in GLP-1s hadn’t sought out treatment was because they thought their insurance wouldn’t cover it; meanwhile, our data suggests that almost half of Americans have insurance coverage for GLP-1s for weight loss. We hope that this tool will empower more people to learn about their insurance options, without them experiencing the burden of having this information placed on them at the eleventh hour. Having conducted tens of thousands of benefits verification checks this year, we feel uniquely qualified to develop this tool and make it accessible to those looking to have more information about their coverage options.
