We banged this out because we wanted to make ourselves look like we were finding ourselves spending valuable time trying to get non-tech-savvy people to find and send us the specs on their browser/OS/hardware setup during testing and tech support calls. Enjoy! Let us know what you think.
Oh and Rex wants to say a few words...
Hi, I'm Rex! Say you’re trying to remotely help your granny (let “granny” mean any computer illiterate friend) with a computer problem and you need to know some specs that they’re unable to retrieve.
Let me help! I’ll generate a custom link for you to send to your “grannies”. Email it to them, read it to them over the phone, or write it in a letter if you must. When they go to that link, they’ll see a button that says “Send [my wonderful grandchild] my info”. When they click it, I’ll send you an email with the following browser and computer information:
Browser
• Browser name (e.g. “Chrome”)
• Browser version (e.g. “47.0.2526.106”)
• Browser engine name (e.g. “WebKit”)
• Browser engine version (e.g. “537.36”)
Computer
• Platform name (e.g. “Mac OSX El Capitan”)
• Platform version (e.g. “Mac OS X 10_11”)
• Platform type (e.g. “Desktop”)
Bark bark!
