Marko Polojarvi
Hi all, it's Marko from Resize.ai. I wanted to give you some context behind the service because retina images is kind of a hidden problem. Apple iPhone 4 with retina display was released 2010. Between 2010 and 2017, over 1 billion mobile phones have been purchased and today over 77% of new mobile phones have retina displays. 4K desktop displays are getting more popular every month. We did some math based on available stats on sold devices and roughly around ~30-35% of western surfers are using retina-level displays to browse the web. The math reveals that in an e-commerce context, the best customer segment with the most buying power actually sees your product images blurry due retina display's sharpness. One of the challenges with the modern devices is that a majority of webmasters don't have access to the original, high-resolution images or they don't have necessary skills to implement one of the retina switcher libraries. This creates a problem that they spend an enormous amount of time picking the best looking photos and then those photos will appear blurry and generally bad looking on retina displays. So we realized we could fix this and decided to develop an easy solution that they can setup once, and the service will take care of all issues related to retina images. All you need to do is to copy/paste one line of javascript into your templates, and Resize.ai will automatically take care of resizing and switching images for visitors with high-dpi displays. Resize.ai is free to try, no strings attached. There's also a web interface available after you log in so you can resize individual images. I would love to hear your thoughts about the product, what would make it better and how it would be even easier to use 🙏 If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask 🙂
