I'm a founder, so every time we ship something I record a screen video of it and put it on YouTube. I've been using Screen Studio for that and it's a great tool, but recording is only the first part. After that I still have to edit, export and upload it by hand, and that's where most of the time actually goes.
The auto zoom in Screen Studio gave me the idea. If a tool can work out where I'm pointing and zoom there on its own, it should be able to do the rest too: cut the retakes and silences, drop the filler words, switch between the screen and my face when that makes sense, and clean up the background noise.
What I wanted was to get a video back that's already 90% edited, so I can watch it once, fix what it got wrong and post it without leaving the tool. So I started building Rescreen.
It records in the browser, so there's nothing to install and it isn't Mac-only. When you stop recording, the edit runs on its own. If it got something wrong you fix it by reading the transcript and deleting the part you don't want, rather than dragging clips around a timeline. Then you download the file, share a link, or post it from inside Rescreen.
If you're a founder, or you record Loom-style videos for any other reason, I'd like to hear what you think.
