The kind where you sign up, get a key, and suddenly you can validate emails, look up card info, convert currencies, whatever you need. I spent hours just hitting endpoints trying to understand how they worked. I always thought building one of those would be the coolest thing. I'm a backend engineer by trade and I've spent years shipping APIs for other companies. The problem I kept running into on side projects was the same every time: you need 4 or 5 small utility APIs, and suddenly you're managing 4 or 5 accounts, 4 or 5 keys, 4 or 5 billing setups. It's friction that adds up. Requiems API is my answer to that: one key, one dashboard, everything in one place. Building it changed a lot as I went. I started thinking it would be a small project and it ended up being a full multi-language monorepo with a Go backend, a Rails dashboard, and Cloudflare Workers handling auth at the edge. I handled everything myself: infrastructure, deployment, billing, config across platforms. That ended up being as valuable as the product itself in terms of what I learned. The areas I focused on hardest are finance (BIN/IBAN/SWIFT validation, exchange rates, crypto, mortgage calculator, inflation data) and validation (email, phone, disposable detection, WHOIS, MX records).
