Tokenize GitHub repositories to create aligned incentives between developers and communities
## What is repo.trade?
repo.trade helps open source developers create sustainable funding through repository tokenization. The platform transforms GitHub repositories into tradable assets, generating ongoing revenue through trading fees.
## How it works
1. Repositories go through a 2-week auction where 50% of tokens are distributed
2. 40% of tokens plus collected USDC create a liquidity pool
3. Trading begins, with 50% of fees going directly to repository owners
4. 10% of tokens are reserved for contributors to the open source software
## Why I built this
As an engineer who's contributed to open source for over a decade, I've witnessed the fundamental disconnect: billions flow into open source while individual contributors receive
pennies.
Traditional funding models often conflict with open source values or add bureaucracy. I wanted to create a system that aligns incentives between developers and their communities.
After seeing the success of platforms like pump.fun for memes, I realized we could apply similar mechanics to something with actual utility - open source repositories.
## Key features
* Daily auction mechanism for fair token distribution
* Automated market maker for continuous liquidity
* Fee sharing that directly rewards repository owners
* GitHub integration for seamless verification
* Community engagement through tokenization
## Who is it for?
* Open source developers seeking sustainable funding
* Community members who want to support valuable projects
* Contributors looking for incentivized participation
## What makes it different
Unlike traditional funding models, repo.trade creates an ongoing revenue stream through trading fees rather than one-time donations. The system aligns incentives - as repositories
improve, trading activity increases, generating more revenue for developers.
**We're currently looking for our first repositories to tokenize and are offering hands-on support to founders throughout the entire process. If you maintain an open source project and want to explore this new funding model, we'd love to work closely with you.**
I'd love to hear your feedback and answer any questions about the technical implementation or tokenomics model!
