Interesting, this sounds too good to be true!
How has progress been like?
P.S. I'm 75% done with my new book, helping young people land internships. This could be a great addition to my resources page.
@mrtampham Hey! thanks for your comment :-). It's going on well and we have lots of referrals that happened thanks to the website! We are not for internships right now but it's in the pipeline. Do you want to have a chat later this week to talk about it?
@kjbosc@miazuanic Very interesting, I'm happy for you :)
We can definitely chat through email or Twitter but I have a question that some PHers might also be curious about:
Referrals are usually a sacred thing. For example if I refer my friend into Google and my friend is a loser.. the Google recruiter is going to look at me and go, WTH!?
Which makes me look bad.
So if a "inexperienced" person goes through your service and wants a job at Google, what happens next? Do they even reach to the interview phase? Do you screen them out before hand? Does HR take a look before anything happens?
--
Also, is this basically going to "replace" applying traditionally through the front door? Or eliminate staffing agencies potentially? Where do you see this company going 1 year done the line? 5 years?
I'm just thinking on how the dynamics in workforce / recruiting will play out if this becomes the next big movement. Sorry for the "big picture" questions ;-)
Thanks in advance!
@mrtampham Good questions! Candidates have the opportunity to get in touch with some employees on the website, even if not qualified. However, employees will prescreen them to make sure only high quality candidates or candidates that fits the company's culture/requirements get a chance to be referred. So they won't go to the interview phase whatsoever.
And yes, we want to think that this is gonna be the new recruiting process. Why? Candidates increase their chances of being hired but have the chance to talk to employees to be sure they will like the job/company. Employees make sure new hires will be a good fit to the company and receive a reward for the time spent selecting employees. And HR departments decrease their workloads and costs by using Employee referrals programs. Recruiting agencies fees are really expensive for exemple. Recruiting agencies will always exist. But we think companies should use more the referrals systems to get better candidates for a lower cost.

@kjbosc Sweet. LAST and final question: What do you think will be your biggest hurdle moving forward?
I'm really into career / workforce stuff so this new approach makes me extremely curious.
@mrtampham No worry! If you have any other questions, do let me know :-). I would see 2 hurdles: first one, make the platform big enough so it makes sense for everyone to use it and see direct impact of it. It is working really well right now but it needs to grow more. And I'd say convince every company to use it as the main recruiting source. 70% of companies have an employee referral program, so we need to reach out to the 30% left too :-)
Hi Everyone! My name is Kevin, CEO and Co-founder of Refer Me Please. What do we do? It's super simple:
70% of companies have an employee referrals program. Only 49% of employees take advantage of referral programs, because they don't know anyone to refer.
That's where 'Refer Me Please' steps in.
The interaction is solely between the employees of a company that's hiring and possible candidates that need referrals, so the process is faster and more direct.
It also helps companies get the highest quality of applicants so it's a win-win-win.
We're glued to our computers here, so feel free to ask us any questions you might have!

@kjbosc The product is majorly buggy, not sure it's ready for prime time.
@connecteev Hey! Yes unfortunately we are running some issues, server's side and trying to solve them at the moment. Hope it's gonna be back live soon. Sorry for the inconvenience!
That's pretty interesting! I'm just thinking that we'd usually refer someone we have interacted with and are confident about their skills, so how would this work?
Report
@iangelidaki Excellent point! As soon as you find a candidate with an impressive CV, you can contact them with any questions you may have. I'm sure they wouldn't object to a Skype conversation or even a cup of coffee if you're in the same city :)
@miazuanic Thanks for the insights Mia, love how the personal aspect gets in the equation :) So this is ultimatelly between the employees of a company that's hiring and possible condidates that need referrals? Or HR departments are also joining the conversation?
Report
@iangelidaki Absolutely! And everyone has incentive to bring quality to the table - employees want to hire the right person because they want to get the reward, and candidates want to shine because the want the job! Also, companies save money on recruitment agency fees and get access to quality hires. Everybody wins :)
when is the site gonna be up again? looks like your mysql is out of connections... are you opening permanent connections - that's not gonna work for more than few visitors
Report
@icanzilb The site is up and running fine, it was just a hiccup :)

That's quite promising! Rather than tagging people on different social networks and platforms, this one tool can help a lot. Good work team RMP! (y)
