Processing Subject Access Requests or FOI disclosures? RedactBox lets you upload email archives (MBOX, PST, EML, MSG) or PDFs, auto-redact names and phrases across thousands of emails, then export professional PDFs. Built for UK GDPR compliance.

Hey Product Hunt! 👋
I built RedactBox after watching colleagues spend days manually redacting emails for Subject Access Requests and FOI disclosures.
The problem: When someone requests their data in schools, you need to hand over emails - but first you have to redact other people's personal information, confidential details, and legally exempt content. Most teams do this by using Adobe Acrobat on each email.
RedactBox solves this with a simple workflow:
1. Upload your MBOX, PST, EML, MSG or PDF files
2. Triage to identify which documents need attention
3. Redact - highlight text and it's gone (with auto-redact for bulk operations)
4. Export clean, professional PDFs ready to share
We're particularly focused on UK organisations handling GDPR compliance - all data is hosted in Europe, and the tool is designed around real compliance workflows.
Currently used by schools processing parent data requests, councils handling FOI, and businesses managing legal discovery.
I'd love to hear your questions or feedback. What compliance nightmares keep you up at night?

@harry_elliott3 Congrats on the launch, Harry. Anyone who’s done DSAR/FOI knows the pain of manually redacting thousands of emails in Acrobat. Uploading PST/MBOX and doing bulk auto-redaction + clean PDF export sounds like a huge time saver. How do you handle audit trails (what/why was redacted) and false positives? Any on-prem option for stricter orgs?
@hijacey Thank you! Audit trails are baked into the application. There is a redaction log section which allows you to download or view each redaction that has taken place and the comment that goes along with it (if it has one). As this can be requested by auditors. This just gives a nice way to easily get this information when using the app.
Unfortunately no on prem version but we have designed this application to be run anywhere so this can be a future endeavour!
