@manuel_spornberger Oh absolutely, we're actually developing it as we speak. Spotify is the biggest music streaming platform besides YouTube, so we very keen to integrate deeply with it on Record Bird. We saw that streaming new releases within the app is one of the key experiences for our iOS users, so we aim to have it also on Android rather sooner than later.

You’ve launched on iOS already last year, so I assume you also developed your Android app natively? If so, what were the main reasons for native development your apps? Working on a project myself, so I’d be really interested in your train of thought…
@daniel_laiminger We’ve watched recent advances in cross-platform mobile development closely, and we’re super interested in the progress in the field. Yet, with native code, we still feel like we can take better advantage of platform specific APIs and generally deliver a product that feels more at home on the specific devices. Performance of course is also a consideration: our product is very heavy on the media side (lots of pictures, videos, an audio player). To achieve fluid interaction and a smooth experience, we felt like we’d have to jump through a lot of hoops when building on something like the cordova framework.

Always looking to find new music, so thanks for creating something that allows people to do so! How do you see your product differing to Spotify playlists like Release Radar and Daily Mixes which give a broad overview of new releases from artists you listen to? Additionally, music discovery is often about not only discovering releases from artists that you love, but artists that you didn't know you loved too - do you envisage branching out into anything similar to Spotify's Discover Weekly?
@milo_ Record Bird was founded on the basic believe or call it conviction that information about new material by someone’s favourite artists should be freely available to that person, that fan. It should not be dependent on a label’s marketing budget, on the country this fan happens to live in nor should it depend on an algorithm that decides which tracks to pop in your playlists or not.
It should be free and uninhibited to the fan, so that she or he can decide whether or not to buy, watch or listen to it regardless of streaming platform of choice or recommend it to their friends. This consumption of music must of course be remunerated properly, but that’s not our business. We want to be a trusted communication channel between music creators and music fans and let the fans decide where and how to consume the music they love.
I also very much agree with the aspect of discovery. Spotify currently saves terabytes of listening data every week, so coming up with a smarter recommendation engine will be tricky. What we found though, is that our most engaged users on Record Bird act widely as music influencers in their social circles. This is why, we're currently testing - in our iOS app - to give our users the ability to also "repost" new tracks or videos - the idea is simple: If you trust a person and value their taste in music, each recommendation comes with weight. Let's see how that pans out! :)
Record bird is great for new music releases. What about concerts? Are you planning to support concert schedules for locations near you in the future as well. I'd not miss so many great shows anymore. :-)
@florian_lettner ahhh, I feel you man. As a startup with limited resources, we try to stay laser focused though. By concentrating on the issue of new music, we can innovate greater and faster. Yet, I can assure you that we're already doing some tests in the concert fields, but it's more of an experiment to gain valuable knowledge in the field. On top, I feel services like songkick and bandsintown do a pretty good job, right?
Record Bird first introduced me to "The Story of OJ" by Jay Z, I love the song and really enjoy using the iOS App around once a week. In combination with their chatbot for FB Messenger I'm a pretty active user, also played with the Android version on a Cubot device today, pretty slick experience.
Thanks @peterbuch that means a lot from you. Agreed, the new jay-z record is pretty swell, so super-glad we got you on it! :D Also, we should talk about bringing our chatbot experience to the next level, but that's some stuff for a different thread! :)
@stevenjacobs_ For sure man, please send me a quick email (andreas@recordbird.com), I'd love to chat how to better integrate #edmsauce into Record Bird.
