Stop searching through folders—start talking to your files. Recall Local turns your desktop into a private, offline knowledge base powered by Llama 3.2 & Ollama. It automatically organizes messy downloads by context, but the real magic is Local RAG. 💬 Chat with Data: Ask "Summarize this PDF" or "What are the deadlines?" and get instant answers. 🔒 100% Private: No cloud uploads. No API fees. 📂 Mac & Windows: Open source & local-first.

Hi Product Hunt! 👋
I’m a B.Tech student and Python developer from India.
I built Recall Local because I was tired of my desktop looking like a disaster zone of PDFs and screenshots, but I didn't feel safe uploading my personal documents to the cloud just to use AI tools on them.
So, I built a local solution.
Recall Local uses Ollama (Llama 3.2) to read your files, organize them into folders based on context, and—most importantly—let you chat with them. You can ask questions like "What was the deadline in this report?" and get an instant answer, fully offline.
👇 How to Install:
🍎 macOS Users (Homebrew):
Bash
brew tap a1k7/tap
brew install --cask recall-local
⚙️ Installation Note for Mac Users: Since I am a student developer, macOS may flag the app as "Unverified." 😅 This is a standard Gatekeeper check.
The Fix :
GUI: Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security and click "Open Anyway" next to the app.
🪟 Windows Users: Download the .exe from GitHub. (Note: Since I'm a student, I haven't bought a certificate yet. If you see "Windows protected your PC", just click More Info > Run Anyway).
The project is open source. I'd love to hear your feedback on the chat retrieval accuracy!
Cheers!
