Can you please explain how a line of code has the permission to change existing code on a website? Also, how do you automate the optimization A/B testing? Is this manual or done automatically? If automatic, what metrics do you use? Super interesting - thanks!

@harrystrick Thanks! RS hooks into your front-end and makes HTML changes on your website. Our software crawls your site and proposes SEO experiments using natural language processing and our data on successful experiments for similar sites. It's a mix of manual and automatic testing. The metrics we use are Clicks, Rankings, and Impressions.

@ryanbed I'm pretty sure that RS Hooks can't change HTML code right? Or am I wrong? It's essentially an auditor that also looks at analytical data to see how to optimize?

@iloveluce @ryanbed I'd think you need a baseline of search engine traffic to test against, and enough traffic for the split test to generate a winner in a reasonable amount of time (like any A/B testing effort). So maybe not the first thing you do, but a good idea to add this as an SEO tactic.

Since they have recently raised money, they will be focussing on SEO and what better than RankScience. b) Reach out to companies hiring for SEO. Since they are hiring for SEO already, it means they have money plus SEO is their area of focus right now. Hence Rank Science. Would be happy to hear your thoughts.

Congrats! How much traffic should a startup be already generating for RankScience to be effective? What's the metric that allows a startup to know that it's worth it to use RankScience vs. something else (ex. doing it ourselves)?

@saijogeorge Hey Saijo, I haven't used either of those but I've heard good things about ODN and I'll check out RankSense (cool name : ). We're focused on SEO automation (so more than just A/B testing for SEO) and my sense is others are more focused on building tools for SEO agencies/consultants. The SEO industry is massive though and I have no doubt there's room for many successful companies.
