Salaam 👋 I built QuRoots because I could read the Quran fluently and understand almost none of it.
That’s normal, and it always bothered me. Most of us learn to recite — the letters, the tajwīd, the rhythm — without ever learning what the words mean. Translations help, but you’re reading someone else’s understanding rather than the thing itself.
Arabic makes this unusually tractable. Almost every word grows from a three-letter root. Learn ك-ت-ب and you start recognising kitāb, kātib, maktūb wherever they appear. Around 250 roots cover most of the Quran’s vocabulary.
So QuRoots has three parts:
• A 50-unit course — starts at “what is a noun in Arabic” and ends with full iʿrāb. Hearts, XP, streaks, the whole thing.
• A word-by-word Quran — all 114 surahs. Tap any word for its root, form and meaning.
• A roots explorer — 1,716 roots with every verb form, conjugation, and Quranic occurrence.
The bit I’m proudest of is the coverage meter: it tells you what percentage of the Quran’s 77,429 words you can now recognise. Watching that climb is a completely different feeling from finishing a lesson.
It’s free. No paywall, no tier, no ads. Donations keep it running.
I’d genuinely value feedback from anyone learning Arabic — especially where the course moves too fast. Ask me anything 🌱
