Hey Product Hunt 👋 I'm Ioan. Quitly started as an annoyance I couldn't let go of. On macOS, clicking the red X doesn't quit an app — it just closes the window. The app stays alive in the background, holding RAM, sitting in your Dock and your Cmd+Tab switcher. Mac veterans know this and shrug. I never got used to it. So Quitly does three things: Auto-quit. When an app loses its last window, Quitly quits it for real — with a 2-second grace period, so if you close a window and immediately switch back, nothing happens. That delay is the whole reason this is usable day to day. Without it, tools like this misfire constantly. Quit All Apps. One click, clean slate, no restart. Exceptions. A list of apps Quitly never touches. Mine has Chrome, Messages, Spotify. It lives entirely in the menu bar. No Dock icon, no main window, no onboarding wizard. Two things up front, because you'd find out anyway: I'm not a developer. I'm a student. Claude Code wrote the Swift; I designed the behaviour, tested every edge case I could think of, and shipped it. I'd rather tell you than have you discover it. It's not notarized yet. I haven't paid Apple's $99/year until I know people actually want this. macOS will warn you on first launch and you'll need to approve it once in System Settings → Privacy & Security. There's a 20-second video showing exactly how. If Quitly finds an audience, notarization is the first thing I buy. There are free tools that do part of this — Swift Quit, Last Window Quits, RedQuits. I tried them first. Quitly is my attempt at the version that just works, does all three things, and doesn't fire when you don't want it to. $2, once. No account, no subscription, no telemetry. Finally something that fixes this dumb macOS quirk. The 2-second grace window is a nice touch so it doesn't close stuff I'm actively dragging between windows. Worth the $2 honestly.
