Pure Macros is a calorie and macro tracker built around one idea: the basics shouldn't be paywalled. Point your camera at your food and AI estimates calories, protein, carbs, and fat. Barcode scanning, manual entry, exercise logging, and water tracking are free forever, no trial, no card required. The only paid feature is the AI photo scan, since it costs real money to run per scan. Built by one non-technical person in six weeks, working with Claude end to end.
Hey Product Hunt,
Maker here. I built Pure Macros after getting frustrated paying $10/month for a calorie app just to unlock barcode scanning and manual entry, features that felt like they should be free from the start.
The AI photo scan is the one feature I do charge for (it calls a vision model per scan, real cost per use), everything else is free forever: barcode scan, manual entry, exercise logging, water tracking, the core dashboard.
The build itself might be as interesting as the app to some of you here: I can't write code. This was built almost entirely through Claude, in chat and through Cowork, describing what I wanted and iterating from there. From idea to a real App Store submission took about six weeks, most of that time went into App Store review back-and-forth, not building the app itself.
Happy to answer anything, the build process, the app itself, or the App Store review gauntlet (rejected four times before it cleared, every single rejection taught me something real about what Apple actually checks for).
Would genuinely appreciate feedback, especially anything that feels missing compared to what you're using today to track food.
