Privacy Shield is a Chrome extension that hides your screen from people nearby. Tint, blur or dim any page in one click, use a Spotlight that follows your cursor or eyes, or let the Look-away guard blur everything the moment you look away. Eye tracking runs on a model bundled in the extension, so camera frames never leave your computer. No account, no ads, no analytics. Works in Chrome, Edge and Brave. Free to start.

Hey Product Hunt, I'm Hassan, a developer from Lahore and the maker of Privacy Shield.
I built this because I kept needing a fast way to hide my screen in cafés and shared offices, without closing tabs or turning my laptop away from people.
It's a Chrome extension with three modes:
- Overlay: tint, blur, dim or black out the page in one click. Dark, Frosted, Warm and Blackout presets. No camera needed.
- Spotlight: everything is covered except a circle, box or reading band that follows your cursor, your eyes, or both.
- Look-away guard: the screen stays clear while you're looking at it and blurs when you look away or stand up. If eye tracking stops working, it blurs instead of leaving the screen open.
Privacy
The eye tracking model runs inside the extension itself. Frames are processed in memory and dropped right away. No account, no analytics, no remote code.
Limits you should know about
- Webcam eye tracking isn't precise. Expect an error of about 100 to 250 px, and good light on your face helps a lot.
- It won't stop screenshots, screen sharing or someone pointing a camera at your display. It only hides the screen from people looking at it.
- It doesn't run on chrome:// pages, the Web Store or Chrome's built-in PDF viewer.
Pricing
It's free right now. Later, eye tracking will become a one-time purchase, no subscription. Overlay and the cursor Spotlight will stay free.
Two questions for you
- Which mode would you actually use?
- Where do you usually end up needing this?
Bugs and feature ideas are welcome too. I'll be here all day replying.
