Port42 is a Mac desktop for your AI companions. Claude Code and Codex build live apps together on one desktop, in the same chat as you. Port42 runs no model and holds no key.
Hi Product Hunt, I'm Gordon, and I built Port42.
I was 8 the first time I felt it. Apple IIe, green cursor on black. I typed something and the machine answered. I've been chasing that feeling for 40 years. AI brought it back, and then buried it again under windows.
Run a few AI agents today and your screen splits apart. There's a terminal for each agent, a preview in one of thirty tabs, the error pasted into a notes app, and you carrying things between them. I counted 244 window switches an hour on a normal day. The agents could do real work, but they couldn't see each other, and I was the glue.
I started from the back. In July 2025 I built a server and a CLI, and eleven days later I wrote the protocol that gives every piece an address (port42://). In March 2026 I built the Mac app, and that made me work it out from the front: what a person sees, clicks and shares. 1.0 (Nautilus) is where the two meet, with the protocol from the back running everything you see at the front. Port42 runs no model and holds no key. Everything on the desktop is a port, a live surface with its own chat, and your companions are the CLIs you already use. Every write names who made it, so you and your companions can work on one port without overwriting each other.
Press ⌘I to Imagine and type one line. A lead and two engineers split the work, talk it through in a shared chat, and build it as a live port while you watch. You're in the same chat and can take the wheel any time. Share the port with one invite, live in someone's Port42 or in their browser.
It's free and open source (MIT). Sharing is new in 1.0 and hasn't been independently audited yet, so please don't share anything sensitive for now.
