I live in text all day — writing, translating, cleaning up messy drafts — and I got
tired of copy-pasting into a chatbot tab every single time. I wanted the AI to come
to the text, not the other way around.
So PopGuy works like PopClip: you select text in ANY Mac app and a little floating
toolbar pops up. From there you can Improve it (with an inline diff so you see the
change before accepting — your original is never touched), Translate it, look up a
definition, run OCR on anything on screen, or fire your own custom AI actions.
The part I care about most: it's your AI. Plug in your own OpenAI or Anthropic
key, or run it 100% locally with Ollama / LM Studio or integrated models — nothing leaves your machine. Keys are stored in the macOS Keychain, never in plaintext.
Free is enough for your needs but Pro gives some more features. And it's a one-time $15, not another monthly subscription.
