A few months ago, my girlfriend suddenly asked me: "Why are there so many weird expressions in English? Like 'raining cats and dogs' or 'break a leg'—they sound nothing like what they actually mean!" I was stumped. I didn’t know either, and I’d never really thought about it before. So I started digging. And what I found blew my mind: "Raining cats and dogs" actually comes from 17th-century London, where heavy rains would wash dead animals into the streets... "Break a leg" is a theater superstition—saying "good luck" was considered bad luck, so they used this instead... The more I researched, the more hooked I got. Every idiom has an insane backstory! Then it hit me: Every language has its own idioms (in Chinese, we call them 俗语 or 四字成语). Why not build an app where people can explore the hidden stories behind idioms in any language? The vision came together: A flashcard for every idiom, with an anime-style illustration bringing its meaning to life. The origin story, usage examples, and fun facts. A way to save your favorites and share the coolest ones. And just like that—Polyidiom was born.
