I built PokePerps because I noticed something interesting: Pokemon cards have become a legitimate asset class with real price discovery, but there was no way to trade them like you would stocks or crypto.
If you think a Charizard is overpriced or a new set is about to moon, your only options are to buy/sell physical cards (slow, expensive) or speculate in Discord groups (not great).
With Perpetual futures on Pokemon card prices, anyone can go long or short with up to 50x leverage, settle in USDC on Solana, no physical cards needed. We pull real-time prices directly from TCGPlayer's market data.
What made this challenging:
- Getting price updates on-chain without paying tons of $$$ in fees - solved with on demand price pushes and lazy fetching
- Building a trading engine that's both fast AND non-custodial - everything settles on Solana, your keys = your funds
- Making it actually usable for people who aren't crypto natives - clean understandable UI
