I’m the solo developer behind PocketPing. I built this because I wanted to create an app that I hadn't seen anywhere else: a way to communicate without ever taking your phone out of your pocket or looking at a screen. Most messaging apps demand your full visual attention. PocketPing changes that by intercepting your device's physical volume keys. You can send tactile, visual, or audio signals to a partner, and get instant feedback when they receive it. Here is what makes it tick under the hood: - Pocket Mode: It runs stealthily with the screen off, preventing accidental touches. - Hybrid Connectivity: It uses Bluetooth LE for local, immediate proximity, and Firebase for global, long-distance communication. - Acknowledge System: A built-in protocol gives you an immediate physical return-vibration when your signal is received. - Anti-loss Tracker: In Bluetooth mode, it actively monitors signal strength and triggers an alarm if you and your partner get separated. I originally just wanted to see if I could build this out as a solo project, but I realized it could actually be really useful for discreet everyday check-ins, long-distance relationships, or even as an accessibility tool for those who benefit from physical, non-verbal feedback.
