Why I Built PLAYKIT
Streaming is exhausting. You want to watch something, it's on a platform you don't subscribe to, the free sites are a minefield of popups, and somehow finding a movie takes longer than watching one. That bothered me enough to do something about it.
PLAYKIT started as a simple question: what if you could just search and watch? Movies, TV, music — all in one place, no subscriptions, no accounts, just content.
The first version had a Google login. It felt like the right call at the time proper accounts, saved watchlists, personalized experience. But it was the first thing that killed the vibe. Someone clicks a link, and before they even see the app, they're being asked to sign in. For something built around zero friction, that was embarrassing.
So I cut it. Turns out the watchlist works fine in localStorage. The profile photo was just decoration. None of it was actually necessary.
That became the pattern: every time something felt complicated, I asked whether it needed to be there at all. Usually it didn't.
PLAYKIT isn't trying to be Netflix. It's more like a clean front door to content that already exists on the web built for anyone, anywhere, who just wants to press play without jumping through hoops.
That's it. That's the whole thing.
