Hi Product Hunt, I’m Eli, the co-founder of a new game studio called Hovercats, where our goal is to inspire more play in the world. We’ve been working on a game called Planet Crossword and we’re excited to share it with you today. 💡 How it started - For the last two years our remote company has been doing a virtual happy hour twice a month. We would meet on Zoom and play games online together. But after a few sessions we noticed that the game options for groups were really limited. Jackbox Games are wonderful but most have a maximum player count of 8 players, so they weren’t useful for our growing team. Other games were either too complex, full of ads, or needed everyone on the team to buy a copy. We asked ourselves, why were the casual game options for online gatherings this slim? As the world trends more remote there is a glaring need for new ways to play together in the virtual places where we all like to hang out such as Discord, Zoom, Twitter, Twitch, YouTube, etc. Communities, friends, families, streamers, and businesses all need better ways to have fun together online and that’s why we created Planet Crossword! ⬜⬛ Planet Crossword is - - Free to play - Easy to learn - Launched with one click - Fun for small groups - Fun for large crowds - Optimized for streaming - Accessible across platforms without downloads - Live and interactive ⬛⬜ Planet Crossword is a collaborative crossword game made for groups of any size. Stream and play with your audience natively on YouTube, Twitch, or Discord (coming soon). Planet Crossword uses the chat to transform viewers into players. You can boost your live stream engagement and have fun with your audience. 🔡 How it works - All players solve the same puzzle at the same time either in free for all mode or on teams. When the game begins, players simply type their answers into chat and hit enter. If they are correct, the answer fills in on the puzzle. If they are wrong, nothing happens. One point is given for each correct square. The puzzles are made by a world class team of constructors, editors, and advisors. These talented folks include our advisor Ben Tausig and editors Stella Zawistowski and Brooke Husic. A new puzzle will be released every weekday at noon ET. 👩‍👩‍👧‍👦 How many players can play? - You can play solo or with as many players as you want. Currently our record is 34k concurrent players in a single live game solving together on the front page of YouTube! 🕹️ What is the business model for the game? - It's free to play, and enhanced by web3 - Planet Crossword is free for everyone, with no ads, subscriptions, or upsells - Completely optionally, you can collect interactive artworks. Own original puzzles made by some of the best constructors in the world. 🧩 Why are we selling crosswords as digital collectibles? - To acknowledge them as an art form worth collecting - To properly reward creators for their labor and talent - To allow patrons to fund projects that they respect while getting perks in return 🙋‍♂️ Do I need to participate in any web3 activities to play for free? No! ⏭️ What’s next - We’ll be adding a ton of new features to the game including native Discord integration, playable avatars called Hovercats, new leaderboards, and more! 💙 We’d love to hear your feedback!
