PlaceKit is a worldwide geocoding API providing fast and accurate address autocomplete, store locator, and two-way geocoding for your app. It is the successor of Algolia Places, founded by two former employees, crafted by developers for developers.
Hey Product Hunt,
I still remember Algolia Places fondly. I'm so excited to see a replacement coming up and from no other than the 2 awesome engineers who worked on it at Algolia! If you ever used Algolia Places or Google Places before, you should definitely check it out!
Hey PH community 👋
First of all it’s an honor to be hunted by @dessaigne, thanks a lot!
Our mission at PlaceKit is to become the go-to geocoding solution for developers. Existing solutions feel opaque as they're split across many indiscernible APIs, confusing pricing, and locking developers into their ecosystem. We put the focus on the developer experience, and the main PlaceKit benefits are:
✨ A single REST API with a worldwide addresses catalog and transparent per-request pricing with a free plan.
📦 Integrate easily anywhere with any maps provider or JS framework thanks to our SDKs and OpenAPI reference.
⚡️ Blazing fast, typo-tolerant and high-relevance search powered by Algolia engine.
Example use-cases:
📈 Increase conversions with address autocomplete and form filling.
🚚 Reduce misshipments with address validation.
✅ Data normalization.
🗺️ Search for places on a map.
🌍 Country-restricted content with reverse geocoding.
What will come next:
🛠️ Live patching: with the amount of data, no provider can pretend to have it 100% right, so we'll let you fix addresses and make them instantly available to your users. Addressing one of the most missing features from other solutions.
📍 Store Locator: define your points of interest with free-form metadata and let your users find the nearest ones to their location.
We are two former Algolia employees. @raphidev was the team leader of Algolia Places, and wanted to pursue it when it got sunset because all the interest it got from the developers community proved the need for an alternative. I was building internal tools there and gathered a lot of knowledge that now converges into making the best possible package around our API.
Any feedback on your PlaceKit journey would be very valuable, helping us to remove roadblocks and refine our tools to make the smoothest possible experience for our future users. Please also share in the comments any specific use-case that we don’t cover yet!

💎 Pixel perfection
@dessaigne@raphidev@noclat Hi there! Congratulations on the launch of PlaceKit! It's great to see a solution that aims to simplify the geocoding process for developers.
I'm curious about the per-request pricing model. Can you give some examples of what the pricing would be for a certain number of requests? And are there any limits to the number of requests that can be made on the free plan?
Also, I think the live patching feature sounds really interesting. Would it work by allowing users to submit corrections to addresses that will then be reviewed by your team before being implemented?
Hi @amaliahami63276 thanks for the comment!
About the pricing, there's a calculator on our homepage so you can have a look at the the price and automatic volume discount for up to 1M requests/month. For example, 50k requests costs $120. The free plan offers 10k requests per month with all features included (no credit card required).
We're excited to work on the live patching feature too, we think it's a big differentiator! We've been there as developers and know this is a pain point.
To answer your question: yes! Developers can patch data (directly or with your validation from users submissions) across their apps and make them instantly available to their users, and we will have a process internally to review submissions to incorporate them in our global dataset as well.
As we did with the current features, we'll provide both the API and toolkit for the easiest integration.
Do you have use-cases in mind for this feature?

Really impressive! It managed to find my location in a very remote area, whereas Google cannot so far.
Congrats on the launch!
"founded by 2 of its former employees" - well, this is probably the best credibility statement that you can put here! Great job guys and I have to say I love your pricing model!
@igorpavlov wow we can feel your excitement, thanks a lot! It cost us a few headaches to come up with this pricing model, so we're really glad you love it :).

Finally a replacement for Algolia Places! DX seems 💎!
Hey Product Hunt,
I still remember Algolia Places fondly. I'm so excited to see a replacement coming up and from no other than the 2 awesome engineers who worked on it at Algolia! If you ever used Algolia Places or Google Places before, you should definitely check it out!
My company currently relies on an autocomplete plugin powered by Google Maps API. Pretty often, part of the address (typically "bis"/"ter" address complement in France) are "swallowed" by the autocomplete.
Not a great UX and as people often don't notice it adds unnecessary friction for last mile deliveries.
I tested a bunch of such cases and had 100% accurate autocomplete with PlaceKit! Can't wait to switch!
Great Product. We faced address-finding challenges back in the day in one of our projects. The placement is on point. I have a couple of questions, though, for the product:
1. Does Placekit store data for all the call request that happens on the search?
2. Considering it's worldwide, do you capture GEO-IP or Any other form of IP? If yes, will that be a data privacy complaint if countries with strong GDPR use it
Overall amazing product team 🙌🏻 5/5
Hi @ritik_singh_panwar, thanks a lot for your review!
To answer your questions: requests data and IP (without geolocation) are logged in Google Cloud and Algolia with limited retention but we do not store them anywhere else nor process them afterwards. IP is used only at request time to approximate location and serve more relevant results. We are GDPR compliant when providing our services all around the world.
We've updated our Privacy Policy to make all of this clear:

It managed to find my location in a very remote area, whereas Google cannot so far. The data is kept up to date, which helps a lot with reducing return rates.
