Pivot Date lets your plan your process around your fixed milestone. Your milestone date is planned but all the rest of the process steps need to be planned relative to that. Whether it's month-close, software patching, license management or quality compliance. Your process may be different. What's key is that the overall steps remain the same each time you do the process but the dates are all relative to the main activities.
