We are the co-founders and official pitchslappers at PitchSLAP, pitch mentoring for startup tech founders who need to get out of their own head to take their pitch to the next level! The harsh reality is that too many good businesses go unfunded because their pitch sucks and the founders are not even aware of it. Investors don’t generally tell you what they did or didn’t like. Some are kind enough to do so but that is not their job. So founders either get a “Tell me more” or no response at all. People close to you want to see you succeed, inevitably you get a lot of confirmation bias...their support is nice though :) Mentors have seen your pitch too many times, so generally lack the objectivity necessary to make incremental differences in your pitch. And last but not least, you. Your pitch always sounds great in your head, so you don’t count ;) That’s why we started PitchSLAP, a founder friendly low stakes environment where you get expert objective feedback to rapidly improve your pitch. Since we launched at the start of 2020, we are very excited to have reached over 250 founders from 30 countries! You also get a private recording the next day to review your pitch (how fun is that!) and revisit the feedback as many times as you need. As Taran always reminds founders: “Don’t forget why you are pitching in the first place: it’s not to get the 50k, 100k or 350k, it’s to get the investor’s attention for them to say ‘I want to know more’.” A little about us: We both love startups! We are both startup mentors and work with B2B early-stage startups. Taran is a sales and sales leadership consultant with a strong sales background of 20+ years in the Telecom industry, and I am a marketing consultant with over a decade’s worth of marketing experience in several sectors such as Augmented Reality, VoiceTech, Foodtech, and Martech. The origins of PitchSLAP: We started in March 2020. Having seen and participated in similar events, we concluded that if the service is free, founders don’t take it seriously and crowdsourced feedback is not good feedback. And the paid ones are inaccessible and not on-demand. We launched PitchSLAP as a weekly show where 4 founders pitched and got feedback from us. We had a live audience who came in to watch, learn, and rate the pitches. About 8 weeks in we started getting more founders requesting closed sessions and others wanting to schedule different times. I was participating as an invited guest and can put my word that it is really valuable experience for startup founders who are preparing to go for the funding round. Zineb and Taran look straight to the point and give plenty of practical advices that significantly help to improve pitches structure and presentation skills. Highly recommend to those startup founders who are making first fundraising efforts, and not only.
