In 1946 six brilliant female mathematicians programmed the first all-electronic, programmable computer, the ENIAC, a secret project run by the U.S. Army during WWII. Betty Jean Jennings Bartik a twenty-year-old college graduate was one of these women. This is Bartik's autobiography and the only autobiography by any of the six original ENIAC programmers. Betty was hired to calculate artillery shell trajectories for Aberdeen Proving Ground, and later joined a team of women who programmed the Electronic Numerical Integrator And Computer (ENIAC), the first successful general-purpose programmable electronic computer. In 1947, Bartik headed up a team that modified the ENIAC into the first stored-program electronic computer. Bartik exposes myths about the computer's origin and gives credit to the people who were the earliest innovators. There is also a documentary about the ENIAC programmers called "Computers" by Kathy Kleiman, Founder of the ENIAC Programmers Project and Co-Producer and Co-Writer of the documentary. http://eniacprogrammers.org
