Language tools split the job: subtitle extensions show the words, but saving them means exporting into Anki and building every card yourself. Piccard closes that gap. Tap a subtitle line and cards arrive ready-made: meaning, example sentence, pronunciation on each, and reviews replay the exact video moment a card came from. FSRS-6 does the scheduling. Hi Product Hunters, I'm the developer of Piccard.
I built it for my own study loop. I learn English from YouTube most evenings, and for a long time the saving side never worked: I restarted paper vocab notebooks at least three times (three or four notebooks, each with fewer than 10 written pages), then tried Anki. Reviewing was fine, but building every card by hand killed it for me, and exporting subtitle words from other tools made the chain even longer.
So Piccard merges the two halves. The Chrome extension adds bilingual subtitles, English with Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Spanish, French, or German, both directions. Tap a subtitle line and the web app proposes complete cards: meaning, example sentence, pronunciation. You keep the good ones, discard the rest. Review runs on FSRS-6, and each card can replay the exact second of the video it came from, which is the part I care about most: seeing the word back in the scene where I first met it.
After two months on this loop I had 1,117 saved words and expressions and over 5,900 reviews, roughly 70 to 90 cards a day in idle moments on my phone.
It also takes photos, audio and PDFs as input (audio in any of the seven languages) and scores every phrase from 0 to 100 for how much it is worth learning, so the keepers arrive pre-checked.
