I just recently had a similar idea and I think you are on a good track. However, 99% of my photos are on my phone and I think the easiest way to get them to a shared album might be through a bot.
Send the bot the photos and it will collect them.

I'm very happy to share with you my last project, a simple service to share and group photos after an event.
This summer I was invited to birthdays and weddings, and every time it was complicated to get photos from everyone, people do not want to sign up on sites or install a new app, and everyone is not necessarily friends on facebook
That's why I had the idea of a very simple service to do a shared album working without registration. Just create a new album on the website and send the link to your friends, then they can directly upload and see pictures from this link.
To improve the user experience, photos can be compressed in the browser for faster upload.
